Your Nurse Practitioner Residency Questions, Answered

Good morning! Whew – is anyone else still recovering from Memorial Day weekend? On the upside, it’s great to be getting into the swing of summertime. On the downside, I’m two cups of coffee in and still rubbing my sleepy eyes. Does anyone else feel the same? One of my activities for the day is planning our next ThriveAP+info webinar…more to come on this. I love connecting with nurse practitioners and NP students looking to make next steps in their careers and the upcoming info session will be no exception.

I’ll never forget what my first year of working as a nurse practitioner was like and enjoy talking with soon-to-be new graduates and less experienced NPs about to make the same overwhelming move from education to practice.

If you’re facing entry into practice, there are several options out there that can make this a supported career transition. ThriveAP’s take on this support system comes in the form of o∂ur programs, ThriveAP+ and ThriveAP. These programs support less experienced nurse practitioners in three ways:

  1. Clinical Support – Clinics, hospitals and other healthcare facilities employing ThriveAP+ participants know what being a new grad looks like. They ensure that participants work alongside other experienced providers willing to mentor them and help out along the way. Have questions about a patient? Not to worry – someone’s happy to help!
  2. Continuing Education – Both programs kick off with a continuing medical education conference in Nashville, TN. In this clinical boot camp, NPs practice procedural skills like suturing and I&D as well as other topics such as skills for X-ray interpretation. Following this in-person conference, we meet weekly online to dive deeper into clinical topics relevant to your practice. We focus our curriculum on practical, actionable information. Sessions might include topics like rheumatology lab interpretation and chronic kidney disease in primary care.
  3. Peer Group – Life as a new grad can be challenging, no matter how you make the transition. ThriveAP+ and ThriveAP allow you to share these ups and downs with a peer group. Learn from the experiences of others and get feedback from a small group of like-minded NPs about challenges you’re facing.

If you missed our last ThriveAP+ info session, mark your calendars! We’re hosting a live webinar on Thursday, June 20th at 3pm CST. Click below to register as space is limited.
