Congrats, ThriveAP+ Residency Grads!

What a year! It seems like just yesterday we welcomed our inaugural ThriveAP+ class to ThriveAP HQ here in Nashville, TN. To kickoff the year-long residency-like program for our adventurous first cohort of nurse practitioners, we practiced suturing skills, office procedures and talked practice basics that are often overlooked as part of the nurse practitioner education (check out some footage from the event here). Then, we went our separate ways spreading out to clinics located across the country to provide care for patients who need it most.

Meeting weekly over the course of a year, we discussed complex patients, supported one another through the ups and downs of life as a new grad NP and learned from speakers who are experienced in their fields to deepen our own clinical know-how. Working as a new grad nurse practitioner is difficult. Not only are you beginning a new career, you’re building on the basic clinical knowledge you attained in your nurse practitioner program – and it’s exhausting! ThriveAP+ provided a support structure for these nurse practitioners as they got their careers off the ground.

I’m so proud to say that our first ThriveAP+ cohort has officially graduated! Not only have they all completed ThriveAP+’s education sessions, they are excelling in their practices. Mentorship and graduated patient care schedules helped them get off to a solid start in their workplaces and receive the clinical backup they needed as inexperienced clinicians. The level of independence I have watched these nurse practitioners achieve over the past 12 months has been incredible. They are more confident in their practices. They approach clinical basics with ease. They have developed critical thinking skills and systems for approaching even the most complex patients. Way to go!

While this graduation is bittersweet, I have immensely enjoyed developing relationships with these nurse practitioners, it’s time for them to go. They have progressed beyond the need for a structured residency-like program and are now practicing as experienced providers. I can’t wait to see where their careers take them and know each and every one of them will make a positive impact on our profession. Congrats, grads!

As with most bittersweet endings, the graduation of our inaugural ThriveAP+ cohort also means exciting new beginnings. We have welcomed two additional cohorts into this post-graduate program for nurse practitioners and are now accepting applications for our upcoming April 2018 class.

If you have graduated from your NP program, or will graduate before April 2018, we welcome your application. Here’s how to apply for the ThriveAP+ experience:

  2. Submit your ThriveAP+ application by the November 31st, 2017 priority deadline to increase the likelihood of matching with a site that fits your interests.
